Meet Ms. Eryn Shannon
Hello and welcome to our website! My name is Ms. Shannon and I am excited to be teaching fourth grade at Grove Elementary School this year.
Originally, I am from Geneva, Illinois, where I grew up with my parents and younger brother. I moved down to Bloomington Normal when I started college at Illinois State University and while I've traveled and pursued other places, I ended up back here to start my educational career and wouldn't have it any other way!
I graduated from Illinois State University in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and endorsements in Reading, Language Arts and Spanish. During my time as an undergraduate student in the School of Teaching and Learning, I was exposed to very diverse educational settings. Throughout my college career, I worked with students in the Chicago Suburbs, Unit 5, students in Decatur and then carried out my full student teaching semester in Northside Independent School District down in San Antonio, Texas.
Immediately upon graduation, I traveled the country for a year for Alpha Delta Pi Sorority as Leadership Consultant. In this role, I worked with undergraduate women in the areas of leadership, service, scholarship and personal development. The opportunity was incredible and I believe that my experiences working with people of all ages and students at all educational levels have fully prepared me for the classroom.
In 2013, I taught third grade at Grove Elementary and then moved up to fourth grade and have been here ever since. My values as an educator are simple: do my best to meet the needs of every student and ensure that students feel welcomed and valued in our classroom setting. In 4SH, we love to laugh and talk about the world around us. We discuss our hopes, fears, ideas and dreams and work to support one another at all times!
It is my goal that students will thrive in fourth grade, with plenty of opportunities for self reflection and personal growth, as well as have positive experiences working and communicating with others. I will utilize technology and modern teaching practices to keep students engaged and interested in their learning. Students should feel a sense of ownership over their education and will be allowed choices whenever possible. It is crucial that lines of communication between home and school are open. Feedback is important on everyone's account. I can't wait to continue working with my 28 bright young students and their families this year!
